DIY Skin Saviours: Oat Milk Bath

skin saviour

I've been suffering with particularly dry skin lately. Instead of running out (like I usually would) to find something soothing and moisturising to add to my bath water, I decided I'd try a DIY beauty solution. I'm pretty sure this was suggested to me by Sarah, from Sugarpuffish, on twitter. It's basically a homemade oat bath soak, made out of oats which you stuff inside an old (but clean) pair of tights. As you fill up your bath you run the water through the oats which causes the oats to release their goodness and your bathwater turns lovely and milky- but completely mess free as the oats stay inside the tights. I wasn't sure if I'd blog about this but as I loved the whole process and found the oat bath really soothing it is something that I would definitely recommend and thought might make a nice post. Below I'll walk you through how to go about doing it, it's really simple.

All you need is some oats, a pair of tights and a knife/pair of scissors.
(And a bath, although I'll talk a bit more about this in a bit!)

Step One:   Cut one of the feet off you pair of tights. Be careful if you're using a knife to do this!
(I would cut the tights off at the knee so you have more fabric spare, it makes it easier to use later)

Step Two: Using your hands (or if you're really prepared, a funnel) place two handfuls of oats into the foot of the tights.

Step Three: Knot the tights so the oats can't get out and make a mess!

Step Four: Loosely tie the loose end of your oat filled tights to your bath tap. There's no perfect method! You can see how I did it in my photo. I'd definitely recommend placing the tights over the top of the tap like I did as it means ALL of your bathwater will run through your oats.

Step Five: Let your bath fill up with lovely oat-y water.

All you have to do now is enjoy your bath :)

ADDED EXTRA: When you're in your bath you might think your oats are done with- I certainly thought mine were. However, while I was in the bath I untied the tights from the tap and rubbed the oats (still inside the tights) over my arms, chest and legs. What I noticed was that they now produced a very thick substance (which felt a lot like a gel) and I actually used this in place of a shaving gel/cream on my legs. It worked perfect well allowing my razor to glide over my skin perfectly and my legs weren't at all irritated afterwards. It isn't as moisturising as my normal choice of product (L'Occitane's Almond Shower Oil) but it is so so much cheaper and worked brilliantly. I'd definitely recommend trying this!

I'll definitely be having Oat Milk Baths like this again and again as I really enjoyed the process and it definitely soothed my dry skin. I hope this post was helpful to anyone out there looking for a cheap, natural way to soothe their skin :)
