My Everyday Travel Beauty Bag

I'm not one to carry a big makeup bag around with everyday, but there are a few products that I carry with me all the time. I consider these products (or at least these types of products) my absolute essentials - the sorts of things that I'd run out to repurchase if I lost my bag. They might not seem terribly exciting but if you're into minimal routines like I am then these are all godsends and I'd highly recommend them.

First up, let's just take a minute to admire my really cute new Clarins makeup bag*. I was very kindly gifted this at a blogger event I attended at John Lewis Kingston and I absolutely adore it! It's super lightweight but is large enough to fit everything I need. The one potential downside is that it isn't waterproof, but I don't usually carry any products that might smash or leak so this doesn't bother me at all.

The item I probably reach for the most throughout the day is my Tangle Teezer Compact Brush* (£12.49). I have really fine hair and it get's tangled really easily so I like to brush it throughout the day - otherwise I honestly end up looking such a mess! I don't think I'd ever normally have considered buying a compact hairbrush but I got really lucky last year and won a big tangleteezer giveaway which gave me the chance to try one out. Over the last year its become something I just can't live without, but I did recently get my hands on a Dessata Mini Hairbrush* (£9.98) which is really similar to my Tangle Teezer only smaller and more compact. I'm going to try it out for a while and see how I get along, it would be nice to find something smaller than the Tangle Teezer because it does take up quite a bit of space!

In terms of importance, these next two products definitely place second! Anyone with oily skin will know the woe of the shiny t-zone, and in the summer my skin really needs a bit of a helping hand. I try and avoid powder products that contain talc so my go-to mattifying product is actually Wild About Beauty's Mattifying Balm* (£21.00). You press the balm onto your skin using a sponge and I find that it really does make a massive difference to the way my skin looks throughout the day. It isn't a miracle worker, but it helps my skin to stay matte for so much longer than normal. If I find that my skin is really oily then I'll usually use DHC's Oil Blotting Paper* (£4.00) before applying the balm. You just press one of the papers against the oilier areas of your skin and the paper absorbs the excess oils, instantly your skin is left looking much less shiny. I don't usually need these in the winter months but during the summer they're a must-have.

A beauty product that I carry with me year-round is hand cream. The tube that's currently in my bag is Roger & Gallet's Fleur de Figuier Hand and Nail Balm* (£5.10) which Escentual very kindly sent me last month. I like Roger & Gallet Hand Balms because they absorb really quickly so they're perfect for using on the go. Plus, I'm a massive fan of the Fleur de Figuier range (the scent is just lovely) so I'm always particularly happy when I have one of these in my bag. Along with my hand cream I also usually always carry a mirror. This lovely Paris mirror was a gift from my friend Charlie - who blogs over at Captain Ch-ARGH-ley - and it's been in my bag since she gave it to me back at the beginning of the year.

The only other beauty products I carry around with me every single day are lip products - and they're nearly always the same two. I absolutely adore Maybelline's Color Drama Lip Pencil in Nude Perfection (£4.99), it's the lip colour I'll reach for whenever I'm not quite sure what to wear. I like to keep this in my bag because I think that a matte nude lipstick can instantly pull together a look and this one is particularly easy to apply on-the-go. If I don't want something quite as formal then I'm a really big fan of tinted lip balms as they add a dose of colour but also help my lips looking and feeling soft and healthy. My Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus* (£5.99) has been my favourite tinted lip balm discovery this year and I get a lot of wear out of it! You can see it on my lips in my blog post all about the Burt's Bees lip product range.
