August Beauty Empties

The month of August has been a good month if we are to judge it by the number of empties that I've accumulated! However, this month I also decided to rifle through my collection and to throw away any out of date products so there are a few things that I haven't completely used up. I've actually gotten through some much loved beauty items this month and it's difficult to not just rush out and repurchase them. I am, however, still dedicated to completing my spending ban and I am yet to run out of anything that I need to go and repurchase (although I am getting desperate low on day cream so I may have to buy one of those soon). Anyway, it's time to give you a run down of the products I've finished or I'm getting rid of and I'll let you know if I'd repurchase any of them.

the body shop ginvera super facialist

Ginvera Exfoliating Marvel Gel*
This is the only product I've finished this month that I didn't buy with my own money. I'm relatively new to the chemical exfoliating scene and now that I've discovered it I don't want to go back! Ginvera's Exfoliating Marvel Gel is really gorgeous, it's gives a gentle but effective exfoliation and doesn't aggravate my sensitive skin. I want to buy more of this (or a similar product) and will seriously consider it once I run out of the exfoliater I'm currently using. Full review here.

Super Facialist Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask
This is hands down one of the best high-street skin care products that I've used this year. I love this face mask and am sad that I've finished it as I've been happily using it weekly for over six months now. Definitely give this one a go if you have blemished, oily or combination skin as it contains salicylic acid and (especially for its low price point) is very effective. Full review here.

The Body Shop Aloe Protective Serum
This is a lovely serum and I loved the texture of it. I'm a big fan of the whole of the Body Shop's Aloe Vera range (honestly, give it a try) and this serum did not disappoint. I would repurchase this in the future but I have four others to get through first (you can see why I needed to go on a spending ban). Full review here.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool and Creamy Face Wash
I got through this a lot quicker than I thought I would but at the low price of £5 (and even less with any of the Body Shop's many offers) I suppose I can forgive it. The cooling effect is nice but I didn't  fall in love with this cleanser. It's good no doubt, and a lot better than most 'drugstore' cleansers, but I don't think it's as good as the Tea Tree Blackhead Exfoliater so I'd recommend trying that first. Full review of Face Wash. Full review of the Tea Tree Blackhead Exfoliater.

The Body Shop Banana Conditioner
I bought this conditioner when I was interrailing last year and I've only just finished it up. I love the scent and I think it does a good job at conditioning your hair (especially if you want something to use daily/regularly) but it isn't a deep conditioner so it's best for normal - combination hair types. I would repurchase it as I love the scent and, as you can probably tell, I generally like the Body Shop's products. I haven't reviewed this in full as I've only ever used it intermittently.

The Body Shop Moringa Beautifying Oil
This body oil definitely grew on me. At first I didn't love it but when I worked out that it is best just used on the body (keep it away from your hair and face guys) I grew to really enjoy using it. I love the Moringa scent, it's lovely and floral, and it absorbed pretty quickly. I'd like to try some more of these Beautifying Oils in the future, perhaps the Shea version. Full review here

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Lotion
This is a wonderful body lotion! The scent is fantastic and the texture is very light meaning that it absorbs almost instantly. I love the pump packaging, it makes it much easier to use, but it does make finishing the last little bit of product very difficult. I'd definitely get one of these again and I've used more than one of these in the past so I can say that the quality across the different scents doesn't vary, they're all lovely! Full review here.

Good Things Total Wipe Out Cleansing Wipes
I haven't reviewed this in full but these are the nicest cleansing wipes I've ever tried! Very refreshing and moist and they smell fruity. I don't think cleansing wipes are good for your skin in the long run but on lazy evenings they can be a god send. If I were to ever buy any face wipes in the future it would be these as I've tried tonnes of varieties and these are by far my favourites.

Colgate Plax Whitening Mouthwash
I'm an advocate of dental health so if you don't use mouthwash and you don't floss then I have to recommend that you start doing so! The little things make a big difference and I like to get products with whitening properties so that even if I find these little additions to my routine tedious I know they're serving more than one purpose. This is a great mouthwash for people who don't love overly strong minty tastes too!

Dove Go Fresh Cucumber and Green Tea Antiperspirant
A cute travel deoderant that I bought during exam season to keep with me in the library - tells you everything you need to know about a) how hot the library was and b) how much time I spent there! The scent of this one was gorgeous and it did its job well. I'd definitely get this again.

Garnier Moisture Match for Normal to Dry Skin
I really didn't like this moisturiser and I've actually given up on it completely. Full review here.

Toni & Guy Rapid Response Leave-In Conditioner
I used this leave in conditioner for the entirety of 2011-2012 and I've had the tiniest bit left since then. It's a great leave in conditioner and lasted for absolutely ages justifying any concerns you might have about it's price. I'd definitely recommend it but I won't be repurchasing it as I prefer something with a slightly lighter consistency now as this Toni & Guy Rapid Response Leave-In Conditioner has quite a thick cream consistency.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask
I used this product quite a few times last year and had very mixed feelings about it. I didn't take it to University with me which meant it got utterly neglected and has now gone past its sell by date. Although I'm in two minds about it I will err on the side of caution and suggest that you give this mask a miss.

The Body Shop Banana Shampoo
Unlike the conditioner I didn't really like this Banana shampoo. It isn't as cleansing as I would have liked (I get very greasy roots) and it was a bit heavy. This might be good for those with dry or damaged hair but I personally won't be buying this again. There is some product left but it is past its use-by date by a few months so I'm getting rid of it.

Thanks for sticking with me through this particularly hefty empties post. Have you tried any of these products yourself?

  1. I LOVE the satsuma range from The Body Shop, it smells amazing! The only problem is I go through their products so fast the money I spend seems a little pricey!

    Great post as always :D

  4. You have been using lots of The Body Shop bits ;) I have the chocolate oil and it's amazing but I haven't really used it over the summer, so I am looking forward to using it over the winter months!

  5. I bought TBS Banana Shampoo & Conditioner ages ago and agree with you that the shampoo feels very heavy and isn't great for oily roots at all. Loved the conditioner for everyday use though x
