On the Hunt for the Perfect Neutral Lip

Today's lipstick post is dedicated to the perfect neutral lip. By a neutral lip I don't exactly mean a 'nude' lip. No, today's post is about my hunt for that tantalizing my lips but better colour that could manifest itself in a hundred different shades with perfection lying in just one. The neutral lip will vary person to person but it is elusive and much sought after by pretty much every woman who's "into" lipstick. My best friend recently told me that she only really owns one lipstick and that certainly she only wears one lipstick because she was only interested in the one for her. Well, my hunt for a perfect neutral lipstick is similar to that desire. Only, in myself this interest has manifested itself in a trial and error process rather than the ruthless deduction that her shopping habits, or lack thereof, signify. I have five neutral lip shades to show you and these are the favourites among my collection, although I have a feeling that perfection is still a shade away...

Left to right: MaxFactor's Color Elixir Lipstick in Pink Brandy, Une Sheer Lips Balm in S05, The Body Shop Colour Glide Shine Lipstick in Shade 11, L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in Sweet Berry, Topshop Lipstick in Innocent with Revlon's Super Lustruous Lip Gloss in Nude Lustre.

MaxFactor's Color Elixir Lipstick in Pink Brandy
This is quite possibly the front runner. It is a soft, muted pink with just a touch of coral to it which I find brightens the lips, and with them my face. The formula of MaxFactor's Color Elixir Lipsticks is wonderful and relatively long lasting, so perhaps when I favour this lipstick it comes with the formula in mind...

Une Sheer Lips Balm in S05
This is the sheerest option that I chose to include. It has the formula of Revlon Lip Butter and melts onto the lips tinting them just ever so slightly. I like the effect very much and the colour is only just a touch different from my natural lip which certainly gives it the feel of a my lips but better shade. Sadly, this doesn't wear very well and needs constant maintenance.

The Body Shop Colour Glide Shine Lipstick in Shade 11
This looks very coral in the bullet but it swatches very sheer. On the lips it has a brightening effect that makes it very wearable throughout the day. I love the formula of the Colour Glide Shine Lipsticks but some of the other shades can be a little bit gritty so it's worth bearing that in mind! This one, however, is very balmy and moisturising and lasts about an hour on the lips.

L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in Sweet Berry
A darker option but still in the neutral lipstick range. The effect this gives is to make my lips look fuller and plumper as the formula is very glossy and the darker colour gives my lips more emphasis than the other shades. I probably wear this colour the most at the moment and considering I have 50+ lipsticks I've used quite a lot of it (about one third is gone).

Topshop Lipstick in Innocent with Revlon's Super Lustruous Lip Gloss in Nude Lustre
This is the only 'duo' lip shade but I love these two lip products together and I wear them like this quite a lot so I really wanted to include it. Topshop's Innocent is a bit too blue based for me to wear alone but with Revlon's Nude Lustre over the top it's transformed into a wearable and very natural, glossy pink shade.

So, I may still be on the hunt for perfection but I do really like these five options and I wear them all quite often, especially when I want low-key make-up. Do you have a favourite shade? What lip products do you reach for when you want a natural looking lip?

    1. I've bought way too much of the Body Shop's make up in the past haha. I'd highly recommend their brown pencils and for anyone with normal/dry skin their moisture foundation would be great xx
