Best Lip Balm: What to Buy

Lip Balm Reviews

Best Lip Balm from the Drugstore

I've been a big fan of Nivea's Essential Lip Balm ever since I discovered it. It's very easily available in many different countries and is incredibly affordable - I usually pick mine up for £1 from Boots and Superdrug stores. I find that it lasts ages, does a good job at keeping my lips hydrated and the packaging stays looking neat for a long time - even in my cluttered hand bag. It's blue packaging also renders it unisex, I've seen plenty of men using it, especially over the winter season!

Best Smelling Lip Balm

This is a recent discovery of mine and I just cannot get enough of the scent! The lip balm itself reminds me of an old favourite of mine from Jason, it's soft and buttery and melts onto the lips. It does a good job at keeping them soft and hydrated and I reach for this one quite often. Hurraw make all sorts of great scented lip balms so there's bound to be the perfect scent for you, and they're all vegan products and cruelty free.

Best Natural Lip Balm

This is another new discovery and although I was initially put off by the name (I mean, what is nipple balm?) this is a truly incredible product. This is the lip balm that I like to apply at night time before bed as it has a thick, gel consistency that deeply hydrates even very dry lips. If you're looking for an overnight treatment or want something very effective then I'd definitely recommend this one from Dr. Lipp.

Best "Fun" Lip Balm
My Pick: EOS Lip Balms*

I've wanted to try EOS Lip balms for the longest time. Their packaging looks so much fun online and when I finally had the opportunity to try them out I discovered that they are just as fun as they look! Personally, I think EOS Lip Balms have been overly hyped online. They're a standard lip balm in very cool packaging. I don't find that they intensely moisturise my lips, but they're great if you want something that won't leave your lips looking shiny. I have the scent Blueberry and Acai which is nice but isn't a favourite of mine.

Best Lip Balm to Give as a Gift

The packaging of Flint + Flint's products alone is a big selling point for me - they come in incredible looking boxes that are stylish and make perfect gifts. The Lip Hero itself has a thin, gel consistency and whilst it isn't the thickest and most nourishing of lip balms it still does a good job. I like using this as a primer before applying drying, matte lipsticks but the product and packaging is completely unisex.

BONUS: My Most Repurchased Lip Balm

I've written about this lip balm from Lush before - it's a long standing favourite of mine. I love the buttery consistency and the sweet honey scent. The only problem is that this lip balm comes in a pot which makes it a big unhygienic to use "on the go". I tend to keep this at home and use it after I exfoliate my lips (with Lush's Bubblegum Lip Scrub).

I hope this helped you find some new lip balms to try. I'd love to know some of your recommendations for which lip balms to try next.

A Budget-Buy Winter Must Have: Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm

I'm not usually a fan of 'drugstore' lip balms, I tend to find that they don't do as much for my lips as I want and need them to. However, Nivea's Essential Care Lip Balm is the only super affordable lip balm that I've ever repurchased more than once - and my oh my, I've repurchased this over and over again! I think the tube I'm using now is probably my eighth or ninth tube.

Nivea recently revamped the packaging of their Essential Care Lip Balm and I was keen to see if they had made any changes to the formula. I'm happy to say that it seems to be the same as it's always been - which is great for me because I've always really liked the formula. It's softer in consistency than the other Nivea lip balms that I've tried and it's really quite hydrating. I also love the packaging, I've never had problems with the lid coming off in my handbag and it has a satisfying 'click' to it when you open and close it. It might be boring to some of you but it's honestly a staple of mine so it definitely deserves a mention, especially now because I'm reaching for it more than I normally do. If you're looking for a lip balm to carry around now that it's cold and windy here in the UK then I'd highly recommend it, especially as it has an RRP of just £1.60 (but often you can find it for even less in Superdrug, I bought mine for just £1.10).

Have you tried any of Nivea's lip balms? What lip balm are you using at the moment?

REVIEW: Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm

This was a highly impulsive purchase of mine. I was walking towards the till when I spotted this and I remembered that I'd owned one of these when I was a teenager and felt a sentimental need to repurchase it. I own a Nivea Essential Lip Balm which despite not being my favourite does get used quite a lot so I thought that even if I didn't love this Rose variety it would probably still give me a lot of use. I don't think I was wrong either. As you can see from my photos you get quite a lot of product in one of those little tubes, 4.8g to be exact, and the colour is extremely sheer (almost non-existent to be honest) which means that I can use this without a mirror, on the go and even over or under other lip products if I so wish. The tint it leaves is a very sheer, dusky rose colour that is true to the colour of the product and very similar to the product's packaging. Truthfully, I was hoping the colour would be less subtle so that this balm could stand in for lip stick/ lip tint on lazier days. I don't think this is the product for that, I'd be much more likely to reach for my Fresh Lip Treatment (which I received in January's Birch Box). All this aside, I do really like this lip balm. It's a little bit harder than my Nivea Essential which means that it doesn't melt onto the lips quite so easily making it easier to apply this sparingly. The packaging is really gorgeous for a product that cost me only £1.49 and the moisturising effects are good. There is some colour, albeit sheer, and as it has SPF 10 this will be good to wear during Spring when the sun starts to rear its head. For sentimental reasons I'll always like Nivea products and at such low prices they don't disappoint, so if you want a cute, girly lip balm whose packaging gives that very satisfying 'click' when you replace the lid then this is a good one to try.

You can buy this lip balm in Superdrug stores where it is currently on offer for £1.49 (usual price £1.75).

REVIEW: Nivea Lip Butter Raspberry Rose

This is a recently released Nivea Lip Butter flavour and I think the scent of it is one of those scents that you'll either really love or find a bit overwhelming. To me it smells like strawberry refreshers, really sweet  with the raspberry scent being quite strong. I love it because it feels like an indulgence when you use it because it smells so much like sweets!

The colour of it is a creamy baby pink but when applied it looks a little bit more whitish like lip butters tend to. If applied moderately this is very wearable out but you could also layer this on a little thicker before you went to bed for instance. It really does have the consistency of a butter rather than a balm so you don't have to put that much on as it is very thick and moisturising so a little goes a long way.

Every time I go to sniff this I get a smile on my face because to my nose this smells absurdly nice, this is a winner for me and is going straight in my hand bag replacing the tubes of Carmex that have been in there for three weeks or so now. Sorry Carmex but this little tub just smells too good!

You can find this in Superdrug stores or online for £1.49.

Have you tried this lip butter, or the other new Caramel Cream flavour, if so what did you think of it?

REVIEW: Nivea Visage Daily Essentials Facial Cleansing Wipes

Okay, so I know that this might seem like a boring post but these beauties are the only thing that have been able to get my super-waterproof mascara off me without irritating my eyes!

I don't know why they've worked so well as they're pretty 'sensitive skin' friendly so don't contain any fragrance or alcohol, but they're good! Much better than my Boots own brand face wipes that I was using before. They feel quite dry for face wipes (even when I first opened the pack, they haven't dried out or anything) but they remove make up like a dream.

As they're on half price at Superdrug at the moment I would definitely recommend you try some! You can find them in Superdrug stores on online here for £1.47! Superdrug have free delivery at the moment too so you can have these beauties delivered to you for no extra cost.

Do you have a favourite brand or type of face wipes? I'm always on the look out for good ones for my lazy evenings or just to help get off my waterproof mascara!

My Favourite Lip Balms

We'll start off with my two Body Shop Lip Butters, one is in 'Sweet Lemon' flavour which Tom bought be for my birthday whilst we were travelling this Summer and the other is the Dragon Fruit flavour which I picked up last month. Both smell gorgeous and are richly moisturising, I can see myself repurchasing these over and over again as I use almost daily before I go to bed.
