Beauty Things I Like (which I probably shouldn't)

This is going to be a two-part series with the other post (which will go up next Sunday) being all about the Beauty Things I Don't Like (which I probably should), but I thought I'd kick off on a positive foot! Today's post is about five different beauty 'things' that I like to do that in my heart of hearts I know I shouldn't do! Everybody has some of these, right?  I hope you're comfy because today's post is going to be a little longer than usual.

As much as I know face wipes aren't really very good for your skin and as much as I had sworn off using them in a moment of weakness (read: laziness) I opened a pack of Good Things Total Wipe Out Cleansing Wipes and I fell in love. I've experienced scratchy face wipes, I've experienced alcohol-smelling face wipes and I've experienced dry, dry face masks - and I didn't like any of them. Well, these Good Things Face Wipes aren't any of those things, they're wet, they're soft and they smell like fruit. Honestly, I used one, felt a little guilty and then just embraced the enjoyment. I'm not back on the face wipe band wagon but I do really like these. I don't think they do much for my skin but they're good at getting my make-up off when I'm feeling really lazy and that's all I want from them.

I know I shouldn't wash my hair every day but when I don't it gets greasy and it gets lank. I have a seriously oily scalp and I've tried a lot of different hair care routines with very little luck. I stick to them for weeks and months but always inevitably fold and revert back to shampooing every day. If you know my pain then I feel for you, because our lot as greasy haired ladies is not a good one!

Now, I don't mean to insinuate that exfoliating is bad - it is not bad at all. But I think I like doing it a little bit too much... It's hard to know what is the perfect amount of exfoliation is but I know that my skin likes being exfoliated so sometimes it's hard to know what is too much of a good thing. I love chemical exfoliating treatments on my face and on my body I like to try brush or to use an exfoliating glove in the shower.

Waterproof mascara is a beauty staple of mine and since Kat from Tales of a Pale Face sent me a sample size of Benefit's They're Real Mascara I've been using it almost every single day. Now, there's nothing implicitly wrong with wearing waterproof mascara but when it is a mascara that is tough to remove then wearing it every day can create a little extra stress for your eye area. I worry that maybe having to spend longer (and using more product) trying to remove waterpoof mascaras is not doing my eyes any good... But in this heat where my make-up doesn't like to stay put I just can't imagine not using a waterproof/budgeproof mascara!

Is it wrong that I really like plucking my own eyebrows? The pain gives me a lot of satisfaction and I actually like the finished result. I know that my eyebrows might be transformed by letting a professional do all the hard work but I am yet to be convinced to let anyone else do this beauty chore for me. All you need is a good set of tweezers and an iota of restraint - as much as I find the feeling satisfying I don't want to overdo it.

What beauty things do you like that you probably shouldn't? There might end up being more than you originally thought there were!

  1. I can't wait to read the next post of this, I have a feeling it will be a very interesting read! Haha! I used to really enjoy plucking my own eyebrows, so I totally know how you feel! Now I let a pro do it because mine weren't looking amazing haha! I also know how you feel about the hair! Mine is super greasy and I am down to washing it every second day instead of every day (thank goodness) which is probably still bad but oh well, I'd rather have pretty hair! :D

  2. Haha I love exfoliating. I don't feel clean if I don't use an exfoliater - not even a sharp scrub but my shower gel has to have some form of exfoliation beads in. xD

I also wear waterproof mascara, I can't not otherwise I look like a hot mess. (My eyes water a lot).

I love this post, I can't wait to see what your next post will be. :D

  3. We are exactly the same!!!
I have to wash my hair every day otherwise it not only looks gross but feels awful! I have the odd (lazy) day when I use face wipes, I LOVE exfoliating and wear They're Real or L'Oreal Telescopic Waterproof everyday and I do my own brows!

  4. This is so much fun! I'm not sure what I really like that I shouldn't. Probably basically always wearing nail polish is my main offender, I can't remember the last time my nails were naked for more than a couple hours!

  5. I love exfoliating! I probably over do it too, perhaps every other day. But I get such bad dry, flaky patches that I just want to get rid. Haha. Plus, my skin feels a lot cleaner after exfoliating.
I also love plucking my own eyebrows, it's very satisfying and in I find it difficult to get a salon to do it in case they do it wrong or not to my taste haha.

  6. Oh, that Aussie shampoo sounds like a real delight! And I also wash my hair almost every day - I just can't help myself :). And plucking your own brows? Sure, nothing beats that :D!

  7. I wash my hair everyday too. I tried to 'train' it to not need washing everyday but I was a total grease monster and had to use tons of dry shampoo! Gave up in the end and have embraced having nice clean hair everyday =) great post!

  9. This made me laugh! I think we're all guilty of these things... I'm definitely guilty of make up wipes and waterproof mascara every day!

  12. My face LOVES to be exfoliated. I used to exfoliate every day with LUSH's Ocean Salt - no dramatic difference. My face just ate it up, haha! It feel so nice. Also, I had NO idea wipes were bad! I use makeup wipes everyday, yipes! But they're so much more convenient to use!! I shan't stop, haha! Looking forward to the next post in this series :)
